Reading UC Davis Newsgroups from Home

* With Explorer, go to this address:

  http://email.ucdavis.edu/newsgroups/reading.html

* Click on: "Log into the Kerberos server"

* enter your *UC Davis* user name and password

* The rest of the instructions are for Outlook Express.
  (But! The steps for other news-reading programs should
   be similar. )

* next: open Outlook Express 

* Choose: "Set up a Newsgroups account"

* Enter the requested info:
	* your name
	* your e-mail address:
	* the news server: news.ucdavis.edu
	* don't check the "requires log on" box

* The names of all 25000 newsgroups will be down-loaded
  to your computer.

* Search for this group: ucd.class.ecs30a

* Subscribe

* Also search for this group: ucd.class.ecs30a.d

* Subscribe

* Click on OK

* Click on the newsgroup name to see the messages
  posted there now.

* Click on a Message Subject to see the message.

* Use the Message Menu at the top of Outlook Express
  to reply or to post new messages.

* When you want to read these newsgroups in the future,
  you will still have to log in using the procedure
  at the start of this document.
