Research Interests: My research is broadly focussed on monitoring and management issues in wireless networks. Specifically, I work on measurement-based resource management in multi-hop wireless mesh networks, efficient monitoring techniques for wireless networks, and fault diagnosis in wireless networks. I have hands-on experience with deploying and maintaining a live wireless mesh testbed.
I have also worked on analyzing delay characteristics of third-party applications on online social networks such as Facebook.
PROJECTS:
- Wireless Mesh Overlay (WiMO) - In this project, the aim is to develop an overlay-based monitoring framework that will help us provision resource control and network management in Wireless Mesh Networks. We are currently implementing measurement-based schemes for admission control and QoS-based routing in wireless mesh networks. We also consider different approaches for monitoring various metrics such as available bandwidth and round-trip delay in a wireless mesh network, while incurring low overheads.
- Quail Ridge Wireless Mesh Network - As part of this on going effort, we have setup an infrastructure-based Wireless Mesh Network at the Quail Ridge Wildlife Reserve. The network currently has over 20 wireless nodes. The mesh network supports video cameras and audio sensors that are used for monitoring the wild life in the reserve. It also provides us with an excellent platform for research in wireless mesh networks.
- Analyzing Online Social Networks and Applications - The viral growth of third-party applications on online social networks (OSNs) such as Facebook can potentially influence how content is served in the future Internet. We conducted a large-scale measurement study to understand the usage of these applications (temporal and geographical variations) and analyze the workload characteristics.
